Accident at Steel Pacific Victoria Yard
With deep sadness, we announce that our company has suffered a tragic loss today. This afternoon an accident occurred at our Victoria recycling facility which has resulted in an employee fatality.
Steel Pacific Recycling takes the safety of each one of our people very seriously. Staff on site acted swiftly to notify all appropriate emergency and regulatory agencies and we are cooperating fully with the WorkSafe BC accident investigation team. We are determined to ensure that this never happens again at any Steel Pacific facility.
Our immediate priority is providing support for the family, friends and co-workers of our fallen team member. Further details about the accident will be released in time and in accordance with the thorough investigation of this accident.
Operations at the Victoria Yard will be curtailed on Monday, May 7th with loads being accepted only under extenuating circumstances. We appreciate the cooperation and support of our customers and community as we grapple with this tragic loss.
